European Union pavilion at the biggest Food Innovation exhibition

–20 European companies to showcase innovative sustainable / organic products—

New Delhi, September 2019: 20 food and beverage European companies from 11 member states of the European Union make up the European Union Pavilion at the 2nd edition of the Indian Food Innovation Exhibition by SIAL at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi from 19th – 21st September. One of the largest country pavilions, exhibitors will showcase a selection of innovative, sustainable, eco-friendly and/or organic food and beverage products and processes across Europe.

The Pavilion was inaugurated by Shri Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, and Mr. Raimund Magis, Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union Delegation to India, along with EU member state Ambassadors and other dignitaries. A cook book with European recipes “Taste of Europe” was also released at the pavilion.

European exhibitors bring to the audience a unique selection certified for their organic and/or sustainable products including ecological honey, organic tea, organic plant based drinks, olive oil, novel (alcoholic) drinks and many more.

The companies represent 11 EU member states namely Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Spain.

Sustainability and resource efficiency is fast becoming central to any economy. Aligned with the EU’s focus on sustainability, the European F&B industry has become one of the largest flagship bearers and contributors to the ‘bio-economy’, using renewable biological resources sustainably to produce food, energy and industrial goods. Indian companies and consumers are also increasingly moving towards sustainable products and processes as well. Given this trend along with substantial domestic markets and strong entrepreneurial tradition in both geographies, there is a huge opportunity for the European and the Indian businesses to collaborate. The event provides networking opportunity for the European and Indian companies to explore alliances and partnerships.

Three European companies participating in the exhibition have also been shortlisted for the SIAL Innovation award.

The EU is India’s first partner in terms of trade and investments. In 2018, bilateral trade between the EU and India in goods and services amounted to € 125 billion. More than 6000 EU companies are present in India.
Elaborating about the untapped business potential between the EU and India, Mr. Raimund Magis said, “Even though the EU and India share strong trade and investment ties, I believe that the potential of this partnership has not been fully realised yet with the Indian market presenting sizeable opportunities to the EU businesses and the European Union welcoming investors and trading partners from India.” “F&B is one of the largest manufacturing industries in Europe, and it represents biggest of the consumption categories in India. This offers substantial business opportunities to both sides,” he added.
The three-day exhibition targets India’s USD 600 Billion Food processing industry which is expected to grow three-fold by 2020. The exhibition also offers the Indian food industry an opportunity to source high quality imported ingredients, network with industry professionals from across the globe, learn the latest industry trends, innovations, and broaden their business potential.
